We celebrate live knots, natural wood grains, and architectural imperfections. Our sustainably harvested Ceylon Teak, Mara, and Nadun are never stained with synthetic pigments.

Every joinery angle is calculated with 0.5mm precision. Engineered mortise-and-tenon joints allow natural timber movement across humid tropical and climate-controlled environments.

Artisanal Soul

Handcrafted exclusively in Moratuwa—Sri Lanka’s historic woodworking enclave. Our craftsmen carry three generations of chisel mastery, giving each piece irreplaceable warmth.

Circular Stewardship

100% legal timber chain of custody. For every mature tree harvested, we replant three saplings in regenerative community woodlands across Kurunegala and Rathnapura.

The Atelier Story

Born in Colombo, Inspired by Nordic Purity.

Woody Interiors began as an experimental woodworking garage in Mount Lavinia in 2018. Frustrated by flat-pack disposable furniture and heavy colonial reproductions that overwhelmed modern rooms, our founders sought a new architectural language.

We asked: What if Scandinavian minimalism—with its airy silhouettes, tactile ergonomics, and spatial calm—was executed in Sri Lanka’s richest plantation hardwoods? The result is furniture that breathes with the island yet feels at home in Copenhagen, Tokyo, or London.

From Raw Plank to Heirloom Creation

A rigorous, multi-month lifecycle ensuring timber stability, structural integrity, and exquisite tactile feedback.

Stage 01

Kiln Seasoning

Planks undergo 60 days of solar pre-drying followed by vacuum kiln conditioning to achieve stable 8-10% internal moisture content.

Stage 02

Grain Bookmatching

Master joiners hand-select and mirror complementary grain patterns, transforming natural sapwood lines into fluid visual art.

Stage 03

Mortise & Tenon

Traditional wood-to-wood joinery without reliance on metallic screws, ensuring joints expand and contract harmoniously with humidity.

Stage 04

Botanical Oil Buffing

Four hand-rubbed coats of certified organic linseed and carnauba wax seal the pores while preserving the warm, velvety touch of bare timber.

The Mount Lavinia Garage Studio

Two architects and three veteran woodturners set up our first circular saw and workbench, crafting bespoke dining tables for Colombo private villas.

2020

Ethical Plantation Forestry Pact

Secured exclusive rights to sustainably managed, government-certified plantation Teak estates in Kurunegala, guaranteeing 100% legal provenance and replanting.

2022

Flagship Gallery on Ward Place, Colombo 07

Opened our serene 3,500 sq ft gallery designed as a series of calm Nordic living spaces, featuring our signature fluted timber screens and curved credenzas.

2024

Hospitality & Marine Custom Division

Commissioned by luxury boutique resorts in Mirissa, Tangalle, and Galle Fort to furnish high-durability suites, cliffside restaurants, and luxury catamarans.

2,400 Trees Replanted & Global Commissions

Surpassed our carbon-negative milestone with over 2,400 native trees replanted across Sri Lanka, while shipping custom architectural pieces to clients worldwide.
